NDS Debuts HD DVR for IPTV

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 10/24/2007 7:09:00 AM

Atlanta -- NDS Group introduced a high-definition digital video recorder for Internet Protocol TV providers, running its Metro middleware on an Amino Communications AmiNET530 set-top box.

NDS already has lined up a reseller: SES Americom will integrate the HD DVR set-top into its IP-Prime IPTV solution for telcos.

“Offering a DVR that delivers the same HD quality in recorded programs as the viewer experiences when watching the live program is an obvious next step in IP-Prime’s solution,” SES Americom product manager Walt Davis said, in a prepared statement.

NDS’s Metro middleware provides an interactive program guide -- with a customizable viewing pane -- along with the company’s VideoGuard conditional access and digital rights management solution. The Metro HD DVR adds various enhancements, such as a set of menu options for managing personal recordings and DVR settings.

NDS, a majority owned subsidiary of News Corp., is demonstrating the HD DVR solution with 100 live streaming video channels here at the TelcoTV show.
