Travel Channel Launches HD VOD Service

Network Picks TVN Entertainment As HD Video-On-Demand Services Provider

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 6/4/2008 1:51:00 PM

Travel Channel Media announced the debut of its high-definition, video-on-demand service Wednesday, giving viewers another way to access some of its most popular series including Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and Samantha Brown’s Passport.

The network has tabbed TVN Entertainment, a distributor that manages more than 8,000 hours of VOD content each month from 175 content partners, to be its exclusive HD VOD services provider.

In addition to archived episodes the popular network series, Travel Channel’s HD VOD service will provide sneak peeks and premieres of both new and returning series.

“Since launching our HD simulcast at the beginning of the year, we have made great strides in increasing the distribution for Travel Channel HD,” Patrick Younge, president and general manager of Travel Channel, said in a statement. “Take up of our standard VOD offering has grown over 130% in the last year, which bodes well for our new HD VOD offer.”

The Travel Channel network is now available in more than 91 million U.S. cable homes.
